Fish and chips

Fish and chips refer the combination of battered and fried fish with chips originated in the United Kingdom in the mid-nineteenth century.

It was said that fish and chips arose from ethnic diversity, when Jewish migrants to the East End of London fried fish left over from fresh fish vending, for sale in the street to eat immediately or take home.

Cod is the most common fish used in this dish but Pollock, haddock plaice, skate and rock salmon are also used.

While favorite potato used including King Edward, Maris Piper and Sante.

Chips (pommes frites) arrived in Britain from France in the eighteenth century roughly 1854 when leading chef included ‘thin cut potatoes cooked in oil’ in his recipe book.

Historically, fish and chips were wrapped in white paper and an outer layer of newspaper.

A traditional fish and chips supper, laced with salt and malt vinegar and accompanied by pickled onions, mushy peas and/or pickled eggs, is a must when visiting London.

Fish and chips have an average calorie count of 595. This can be reduced to a third of the calories by the use of an air-fryer, and by reducing the fat content in the mayonnaise.

Although fish had been consumed as a fast food in the UK since the mid-nineteenth century, it came late to America’s fast food world.
