Northern lobster are large-bodied territorial crustaceans that are found from Maine to North Carolina with abundance declining from north to south. However, they have been imported live into Europe for several decades resulting in their escape into the wild.
Northern lobsters inhabit a range of depths from the intertidal to approximately 700 meters, however, lobsters are most abundant in shallow coastal waters between 4-50 meters deep. It is by far the main lobster species, accounting alone for about 60 percent of total world lobster landings.
